What is a Humanist Celebrant?

According to the American Humanist Association, “Humanists are everyday people who espouse the principles of humanism. The principles of humanism include helping others, concern for our environment, meeting in community with others of like mind, making connections and growing by connection with others who hold diverse beliefs, and building a legacy that makes our world a better place.”

For Mary, being a Humanist Celebrant means being there for the life moments that matter most and giving people an alternate, secular option for these rites. As a Humanist Celebrant, certified through the American Humanist Association, Mary will work with you to develop a service that fits you and your worldview, celebrating the unique person you are.

Custom celebrations with Mary

Mary has collected a vast selection of readings and rites, with different approaches and styles, so that together with her you can create exactly the ceremony and tone that suit you and your occasion. Each ceremony Mary creates is unique, and each wedding comes with a surprise: a compilation of love lyrics from your favorite band, your friends rendering your favorite poem readers-theater style, a ukulele version of the song you fell in love to…

  • Weddings and commitment rites

  • Baby namings

  • Coming of age celebrations

  • Blessing a new home

  • Funerals, memorial services, celebrations of life

Book Mary for your event

Initial meetings can be done in person, by Zoom, or on the phone. Mary loves to officiate ceremonies in New Hampshire and sometimes travels for ceremonies in other states. If you’d like Mary to create a unique ceremony that someone else will officiate on your special day, Mary can help with that, too.
